Visit of Fleckenstein Castle
CastlesVisit of the Fleckenstein Castle: discover this 12th century castle. The fortification, largely troglodytic, is embedded in a rock of spectacular dimensions.
Fleckenstein, the impregnable eagle's nest! Set off to conquer this fortress, which stretches out on a rocky bar of exceptional dimensions above the Northern Vosges and the Palatinate, and let the history of this emblematic castle in Alsace be told to you.
The fortress was built in the 12th Century and for 600 years it was the family castle of the Fleckenstein family. It was extended and improved over the centuries at the same time as the family increased its social status in the world. Reckoned to be impregnable, it did not live up to its reputation and fell without a fight into the hands of the soldiers of Louis XIV. The ruins impress and charm the visitor at one and the same time as they explore one of the finest castles of the Northern Vosges, a natural phenomenon for some, a sailing ship without a crew for the poets, a world of imagination for aspiring knights and princesses. Visit it as you will and in you own time.

Visit Fleckenstein - the Castle of Challenges
It all starts with the theft of a magic book! The grimoire, or book of spells, contains the formula that can change mere iron ore into gold… Since this despicable event motivated only by greed, darkness has fallen on the land of Fleckenstein which is now afflicted by terrible calamities. Fortunately, the castle’s alchemist was able to escape just in time. He has found refuge in the forest and has decided to call Kim to come and help.
Alongside this intrepid and mischievous character, your mission will be to restore the balance of power in the land. To do this, after trying and failing to hold on to the colours of the land of Fleckenstein, you will be whisked away to the mysterious Land of Legends. You will first need to escape from there to start your climb up to the castle where the baron is held prisoner. You will also need to find the book of spells and put the symbols back in their right order.

Fleckenstein Castle
Fleckenstein Castle was mentioned for the first time in 1174 when Gottfried of Fleckenstein was a member of the court of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. For six hundred years it was held by the Fleckenstein family, one of the most influential in Lower Alsace. From a rock with basic fortifications it became a majestic castle with a reputation as an impregnable eyrie, which inspired the Strasbourg architect Daniel Specklin to picture it as ‘the ideal castle’ in 1589. It was finally taken without resistance in 1680 by the soldiers of Louis XIV, who destroyed it with black gunpowder.
