Ecomuseum of Alsace

The Écomusée d'Alsace opened its doors to the public on 1 June 1984. It was inaugurated shortly afterwards by Jack Lang, Minister of Culture. When it opened, the museum had about twenty buildings, some of which were unfinished, but it was already a success! It welcomed 75,000 visitors in its first year. Everyone encouraged the association to continue the adventure. The Alsatians then donated thousands of objects to the Écomusée d'Alsace, constituting the beginning of the interior fittings of the buildings: furniture, clothes, documents, photographs, etc.

Enjoy an authentic experience in the heart of the Alsace Ecomuseum vineyard! For the harvest festival at the Écomusée d'Alsace, enjoy a new immersive experience: become a ‘Vendangeur d'un jour®’ (grape picker for a day). Becoming a ‘Vendangeur d'un jour®’ means understanding the winegrower's job and this key moment of the year. Throughout the year, the winegrower works the land and tends the vines until the grapes reach maturity. Then comes harvest time, the result of a year's work devoted to producing a prestigious product.

Memories of War

From 28 to 29 September 2024

Mémoire

Free

In partnership with Soldats d’hier and Alsacemilitaria, the Écomusée d'Alsace invites you to experience one of the most important episodes of the Second World War in Alsace – the fighting along the Rhine. This historical reconstruction shows how Allied soldiers fought the German mountain troops and shows you the life they lived in their camps and how they built their barricades. You’ll also be able to see military vehicles of the period, along with everyday artefacts, documents and uniforms. It’s an exciting opportunity to find out about the fighting on the Rhine, and to share your experience between generations and nationalities.

Certain scenes or re-enactment images may offend visitors' sensibilities. To ensure the authenticity of the re-enactment, only extras are allowed to wear military costume. The museum reserves the right to refuse anyone wearing inappropriate clothing.
