Discover the history, culture and natural environment of the charming Hanau area at this museum with a modern style.

The Pays de Hanau Museum is housed in a remarkably renovated architectural complex, listed as a Historic Monument. The 16th century wheat market and the former 14th century castle chapel serve as the setting for this Museum of France, a real tool for interpreting a territory with multiple heritages.

Horaires d'ouverture

Closed for works: from 24 December 2023 to 02 April 2024 inclusive.

From 1 July to 15 September: Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 6pm. Saturday and Sunday: 2pm to 6pm.


14 July and 15 August:
- if Wednesday, Thursday or Friday: 2pm to 6pm
- if Monday or Tuesday: closed


Museum closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (including public holidays).

Hanau Museum

The Bouxwiller museum was created by an association in 1933. Gauthier Thieling, its first curator, was a history enthusiast and literature teacher at the Bouxwiller secondary school. Initially housed in the Town Hall, the museum acquired an important collection of popular arts and traditions under the impetus of its second curator, Alfred Matt, who remained in post until 1995.

Obermodern se trouve sur la ligne de Ter Strasbourg-Sarreguemines-Sarrebruck.
Le musée se trouve à 300 m de l’arrêt de bus.

Bouxwiller est situé en voiture à 40 minutes de Strasbourg,
1h10 de Sarrebruck et 1h30 de Nancy.

Le Musée se situe au centre-ville de Bouxwiller, à proximité de l’Hôtel de Ville. Stationnement et restauration à proximité du musée.

Un livret en braille et gros caractères ainsi que des loupes éclairantes (grossissements : 2,5x, 3x, 4x et 5x) sont mises à disposition pour les personnes mal-voyantes. Demandez-les à l’accueil.

Le musée est équipé d’un ascenseur et est entièrement accessible aux personnes à mobilité réduite. Des banquettes placées tout le long du parcours, permettent de se reposer régulièrement. Un parking vous est réservé à 40 m de l’entrée principale du Musée.

The Marie Hart Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the Musée du Pays de Hanau, is preparing an exceptional new event! On 28 and 29 September, rediscover the beautiful town of Bouxwiller in a medieval atmosphere at the Festival des Sorcières! A huge medieval and Renaissance market will be on offer in the historic centre, and a host of events await you for an immersive and magical experience! As well as a wide choice of food and drink, the programme also includes free events never before seen in Bouxwiller: concerts, fantasy walks, storytelling, theatre, archery initiation, dances, workshops and games for young and old, lectures and a medieval camp in the Place du Château.
